Filipino Sign Language

Filipino Sign Language (FSL) or Philippine Sign Language is the medium of communication for the deaf and those who are unable to speak in the Philippines.  It has a very strong influence from American Sign Language (ASL).  FSL consists of vocabulary signs and symbols communicated through the use of the hands, not only of those who cannot hear and speak but also to those who wanted to learn the skill and be able to understand the deaf community or to serve as interpreters for this form of communication.

Sign Language is fun and beneficial.  You can be able to communicate even at a distance or even when your mouth is full.  We can talk lively in sign language in a loud room or place and even in a library.  Sign language is beautiful, unique, graceful and expressive.

The first thing we need to be familiar in learning sign language is the hand alphabet.

The above illustration is in ASL.  It only has a very little difference on how we do it here in the Philippines. I will be explaining it on the succeeding post.  Please make yourself familiar with the above illustration and better yet learn it by heart.  Practice makes perfect!
