Gabrielle - Out of Reach

This is a funny video of two friends having fun interpreting "out of reach" song in sign language (though it wasn't the exact signs). I enjoyed watching them and so I'm sharing it with you.

One Fine Morning Trek to the Falls

I just want to share this captivating scene captured on our way up to Kawasan Falls.

It's a fine morning trek to the falls - the best time to appreciate the beauty of Kawasan Falls.

Shore it Up!

Yours truly will be having this rare opportunity to be a part of an event for a cause: "Shore It Up! 2010".

Shore It Up 2010 is the second coastal and underwater clean-up campaign after its successful start last year in Anilao, Batangas. This project is headed and sponsored by Metro Pacific Investments Corp. Foundation and this year in partnership with E & S Adventure Tours as its overall organizer in cooperation with La Laguna Beach Club and Dive Center as its ground partner. For this year 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity, the organizers had chosen Puerto Galera as its recipient . Its 5km foreshore is a protected area and a marine sanctuary. This year is a unique opportunity for volunteers of Shore It Up 2010 to understand the vital role that biodiversity plays in sustaining life on Earth and to stop its loss. Families, academic institutions, environmentalists, LGUs and tourism stakeholders will be invited to participate in this campaign. The date of this event, September 18-19, 2010, is an involvement to the Clean Up The World Weekend 2010 where different communities and/or organizations around the world unite and take action at a local level to address the global issue of climate change.

You too can join! If you want to learn more on this event you can email shoreitup.org@gmail.com.

Frightened to Death!

My Sky Experience Adventure

Aren't we grateful we have arrived in the "digital age"? Now I have this chance to share this experience to the world in just a snap of the finger or shall I say in just a click?

One frightful night on the 13th of October 2009 at exactly 6:52 pm at the Towers of Regency Hotel, Cebu City, Philippines.  This is actually a last minute adventure with my friend Bi-an, a.k.a. Princess (Her flight was scheduled just few hours after this scary event.). We tried the Sky walk Adventure.

And so I thought I am strong enough to take this challenge, but I was wrong.   From the start 'till the end of this event, I was very silent.  It's as if I was struck dumb with astonishment and surprise.  Ha ha ha! I wanted to laugh at myself now that I realize that I finally found myself super to the maximum level behave and finesse.  It was that very moment that I extremely fear my own death.

Don't take me wrong, the ride was safe and fun!.  We were accompanied by two nice individuals. One is Mr. Cutie (he he... forgot the name, but princess gave that name to him for obvious reasons) and the other is the Camera Lady.  Before the ride they let us watch a video which explains how we stay safe while enjoying the sky walk.  Then, Mr. Cutie made sure we understood all the safety precautions and demonstrated how to wear the Sky walk Suit and attached the harness securely.

Now that we're ready, it's time to step our feet to the door leading us to the way out of the 37th floor of Regency Hotel and Towers.  WHOOSH!! Suddenly I felt afraid, I can't move my feet, and experience shortness of breath. The glass floor parts of the walk made me feel I am really sky walking! Well, Mr. Cutie was doing his job well in making us feel calm and keeping us distracted from our fear and made us laugh a little.   The camera lady made us pause from time to time for the photo shoot, and I'm glad I still manage giving fake smiles...:D

Few words I utter during the walk: " Waaahhh!! What am I doing here?! I'm not doing this thing again!!"

Guess what?! I'm going back! - This time at daylight to double the thrill. ;)

Try the SKY WALK RIDE when you visit Cebu!

I survived!!!
  :PROOF

This video will help you visualize the thrill  :)

Filipino Sign Language

Filipino Sign Language (FSL) or Philippine Sign Language is the medium of communication for the deaf and those who are unable to speak in the Philippines.  It has a very strong influence from American Sign Language (ASL).  FSL consists of vocabulary signs and symbols communicated through the use of the hands, not only of those who cannot hear and speak but also to those who wanted to learn the skill and be able to understand the deaf community or to serve as interpreters for this form of communication.

Sign Language is fun and beneficial.  You can be able to communicate even at a distance or even when your mouth is full.  We can talk lively in sign language in a loud room or place and even in a library.  Sign language is beautiful, unique, graceful and expressive.

The first thing we need to be familiar in learning sign language is the hand alphabet.

The above illustration is in ASL.  It only has a very little difference on how we do it here in the Philippines. I will be explaining it on the succeeding post.  Please make yourself familiar with the above illustration and better yet learn it by heart.  Practice makes perfect!
